23rd Annual Great
Chowder Cook-Off

Inaugurated in 1981, the Schweppes Great Chowder Cook-Off is the original and longest running Chowder Championship in the country - the first to welcome restaurants from across the nation, becoming the National Chowder Championships back in 1999! With Outerbridge's Sherry Peppers Seafood Chowder team traveling from Bermuda and the White House Restaurant under the direction of Executive Chef Mark Russell traveling from Newport's sister city - Kinsale, Ireland, the National Championship has reached a global stature of the International Chowder Championships!


The 23rd Annual Schweppes Great Chowder Cook-Off is sanctioned as the "International Chowder Championships" and features a public vote for the Best Clam, Seafood and Creative Chowders along with Best Clam Cakes among participating chefs. Attendees can eat all the chowder they can comfortably (or uncomfortably!) accommodate in order to determine their personal favorites. Votes are cast throughout the day
